AGI, or Artificial General Intelligence, is the idea that an AI could understand, learn, and reason the way a human can. Unlike current AI systems that act as talented specialists, AGI would be a flexible generalist capable of handling almost any task without being retrained. In the best case, it could solve the world’s hardest problems by accelerating climate solutions or designing pandemic treatments in days. However, in the worst case, an unrestrained AGI could make decisions that humans cannot easily predict or override. This course explores the ethics, economics, and global safety challenges surrounding AGI.
